DIY – Giant Wood Christmas Wreath
Awhile back at the Salvation Army I found a 23″ diameter embroidery hoop. And I actually left it at the store. It was $3.
I came back a week later and it was still there so I bought it and posted it on my Instagram thinking what the heck could I make with this. Now I’ve done a lot of embroidery hoop projects including two planters and two wreaths. I thought about turning this into a mirror but we already have a round shadowbox mirror. But I kept coming to using it as a giant art piece / wreath of sorts.
So as with many things that fly through my head I got this idea for writing or word to appear in it and thought “Ok how do I make this and creating the illusion of floating letters in the center.”
Well it was actually easy. And I say this in the context of that no one was more surprised than me that this worked.
I picked up some wood letters and a star as well as a wood dowel from the Home Depot. I careful measured my dowel to correspond to the inside measurement of the hoop and trimmed the dowel down into two pieces. Then I put everything in the center of the hoop to mark where it would all go. Basically the letters would be glued onto the dowels that would act the anchor for them in the center of the hoop creating that floating letters feel.
Then all I did was use my glue gun (no really, just my glue gun) to glue the dowels inside the hoop and then the letters on top of the dowels.
Added some ribbon and decorations and got this.
You know, for a girl who never made wreaths until she met other bloggers, this is become an addiction.
