DIY Tea Tags with #CelestialSeasonings and a Giveaway!

My husband’s Grandma does not have coffee in her house. Let me back track a bit. The first year we started dating (over 17 years ago) we went to his Grandma’s house for Christmas morning, which also happens to be her birthday. When I didn’t have time to stop and get a coffee, I thought “It’s ok, I’ll just make one there.” Only to discover there was tea and only tea. Why? Because his Grandma only drinks tea.

This kind of spawned an unintentional tradition where every year I would make his Grandma a personalized tea gift for her birthday or for Christmas. Though I have to be honest in that for the first little while, I don’t think she realized I was making them. Actually I am not 100% sure if she realizes it now. But irregardless, the tea tag tradition continues. This year I am partnering up with Celestial Seasonings to create this years tea birthday present, which is a big moment for all of us, because it’s her 90th birthday.

90 years old!!! That’s a lot of years of being a fan of tea.

Now, Celestial Seasonings is no stranger in our household. Our girls LOVE their Fruit Teas and it’s pretty much a staple in our cabinets. I am partial to their Chamomile tea and have recently discovered their Sleepytime Tea, thanks to my friend Thalita, who drinks it every night. My current favourite however is the Bengal Spice tea. It is absolutely incredible. I add a little milk and sugar and it’s that perfect mid-afternoon tea. Basically no matter what your preference, they have a tea for every moment in your day and the quality of their teas is very impressive. Full flavoured and they smell heavenly! No pun intended.

Without further ado, here’s how you can make your own tea bags. I thought it would be fitting to make star tea tags this year, given the name “Celestial”, but also because I really love crafts with any kind of stars, quotes about stars and so on.

STEP 1 – Gather up your supplies which include:

  • Celestial Seasonings tea bags
  • Thin knitting yarn or bakers twine
  • Scissors
  • Decoupage glue
  • Thin paint brush
  • Yarn needle
  • Cardstock of your choice
  • Star paper punch
  • Gift box and wrapping of your choice

STEP 2

Thread your needle with the knitting yarn. Go through the tea bag once as such.

STEP 3

Go through the tea bag with your needle and thread in the same hole you just created in the tea bag. After you do that, this time you can remove the needle from the remaining thread. You have now created a loop around the top of the tea bag to hold the thread in place.

STEP 4

Take a mug and put the tea bag in and cut the threads just as they skim the table top. Remember, your tea bag will most likely float so you don’t want your yarn ends too long.

STEP 5

Punch out a ton of mini stars with your paper punch. Then using your decoupage glue, glue the stars to the the yarn.

Step 6

Let them all dry. Then just stare at how cute they all look like this.

STEP 7

Package them as you wish, for a perfect personalized tea gift for the Celestial Seasonings tea lover on your list.

Wait, there’s more!

I feel like I need to give the sleepytime tea a try – I’ll basically try anything that says it will help me sleep 🙂

I love tea and drink it nearly every day. My favorite would be the BengalSpice CelestialSeasonings although they all sound really good.
