What comes to mind when you think of the brand Dyson? The coveted vacuums that everyone wants right? I’ll bet if I were to do a poll of random strangers, the vast majority would welcome a Dyson vacuum into their home, even if they hate vacuuming. *Raises hand*
In which case when Dyson’s PR Agency contacted me, as soon as I saw their email in my inbox I gasped and thoughts “Am I going to be asked to review a vacuum? Is it the cordless one?” It however was not a vacuum. It was the Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Link, Air Purifier and Fan. My initial reaction was “Well, do we need a fan?” I mean what makes one fan different from another?
My husband on the other hand was like “Yes please! Get that into our house.” He also does the vacuuming. Coincidence? I think not. He uses his Grandma’s very old but still unbelievably good Dyson vacuum. In fact he was so excited about the idea of owning a Dyson Pure Hot + Cool link that I had the following conversation with him about it.
Me – “Where are we going to keep it?”
My husband – “In the bedroom!”
Me – “But we have a ceiling fan in the bedroom.”
My husband – “Not the same thing Alex. This is also an air purifier.”
Me – Skeptical long silent pause.
My husband – “Get the Dyson Alex.” No exclamation mark.
The Dyson Hot + Cool Link arrived shortly thereafter. When it arrived, the delivery guy (who was not a Dyson employee) had the following conversation with me about it.
Delivery Guy – “Oh! That’s the Dyson Hot + Cool link. You’re going to love this!”
Me – “That’s what my husband says.”
Delivery Guy – “It’s one of the best products I’ve ever purchased. Made the air so much better and I sleep like a rock. Helps my allergies! I have the cordless vacuum. You should get that too.”
So if you’re keeping score, apparently my husband and the delivery guy are Dyson’s unofficial spokespersons. Without further ado, I want to share a bit about the Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Link, Air Purifier Heater and Fan, for those of you like myself who may be wondering what exactly is the difference between this and a regular fan and may even be skeptical about how this could help.
The Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Link Air Purifier Heater and Fan
The Name: Hot + Cool means that it can heat or cool a room. Purifier means it purifies the air and gets rid of all the bad stuff you’re breathing in that you didn’t realize was making your health and allergies worse. And Link refers to its ability to link to the Dyson app so you can control your Dyson from your cell phone and get reports on the air quality in your home.
- 360˚ Glass HEPA filter: captures gases and removes 99.97% of allergens and pollutants as small as 0.3 microns, including pollen, bacteria and pet dander, trapping them in the filter and eliminating them from the air you breathe.
- Intelligently purifies, heats and cools you: fast even room heating in winter, powerful personal cooling in summer and intelligent purification all year round.
- Automatically monitors, reacts and purifies: automatically purifies the pollutants it detects in your home, while simultaneously reporting the live indoor and outdoor air quality to the Dyson Link App.
- Captures smells: an activated carbon layer in the filter captures odours and potentially harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs), like paint fumes.
This is where I tell you where my skeptical self was educated on just how phenomenal this machine is.
The first day the we used this, my husband was testing it out in the kitchen, where we currently do not have a range hood installed (we are still undergoing a kitchen renovation). He left it set to auto. It not only removed the smoke in the air, it took away the smells from the other end of the kitchen and the fan adjusted to the needs of the room on its own. Again, did I mention it was nowhere near the stove and still did a great job.
That night however was the true test. Our bedroom has vaulted ceilings, carpet on the floor and has horrible air circulation. It’s always too hot or too cold and I can’t count how often I wake up coughing due to the dry air, especially during our Canadian winters.
We turned it on, went to bed and I slept like a rock. In fact I didn’t wake up all night. That does NOT happen.
Second night, same thing. Third, kept going. In fact I’ve slept better since we started using the Hot + Cool Link than I have in ages. IT WORKS. Period. I can feel the air quality difference in the room. Aside from it working well to purify the air, it’s quiet, it safe for kids (no fan blades to worry about) and aesthetically it’s just stunning. I look forward to it also helping us keep the room warmer during winter as our bedroom is the coldest room in the house.
It has this smart feature where the remote control is magnetic and stores on top of the Dyson so you won’t lose it. My personal favourite feature of this is the Night Mode function, where you click on the moon symbol and it dims the display (because no one needs a bright LED light shining in their face all night) and ensures it runs on the quietest setting, all while continuing to do its job.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Without a doubt. So now it’s my husband, the delivery guy and me as the unofficial/official Dyson spokespersons.
