northstory notes – Aug 16, 2013

Ok, ok I chose that name. It’s cute and cheesy and it totally fits the shortened versions of my goal for these Friday posts vs my epic long novels that I like to write.

Every week I want to try and share some weekend reading, random acts of kindness, links to projects, products, people or blogs I love etc. Or maybe even tell a small story along with it. I look forward to these posts from my favourite bloggers so much that I thought it was high time I do my own.

This week’s RAK was the week of curbside side finds. I don’t know about you, but curbside finds are one of my favourite ways to Pay It Forward. Someone gave away an entire kitchen (no joke, cabinets and all) but I missed getting a photo of it before it was all collected  by eager neighbours. And I came across a kids climber.

It inspired us to help pass along some of our items, so we wound up giving away a bike hitch trailer, bags and bags of kids clothes, some household supplies including a window as well as a baby carrier and cover which helped out an upcoming new mom. So if you have anything in your home that you think someone else could use, I encourage you this weekend to put out your own curbside find or donation and help pay it forward to a new home.

In other notes:

So happy to see Karen is back! The blogging world is not the same without her.

Summer’s almost over but you should really take advantage of the last of this warm outdoor time and check out the Endless Summer Projects series.

If you’re Canadian Design or Lifestyle Blogger are you headed to BlogPodium? Poppytalk did a write up on what it’s all about and how you can even save 10% through her website on tickets.

Cutest damn DIY Garden Gnomes ever!

I had to get this in my last trip to IKEA. Their new HUSET dollhouse furniture. I don’t know if I am going to make a dollhouse  to match it yet.

Ever meet someone on Twitter and realize that they’re exactly you, just in a different country. Meet Alex from Hydrangea Girl and go show her some love!

And you know what? Sometimes it’s OK to take a break from it all.

See you next week! I’ve got an ongoing outdoor adventure with a certain someone who is obsessed with a certain wagon that I have to tend to.

Alex, that is SUCH a cool wagon pic… do they come in grown-up size? Going on my Christmas long-list if so (planning for Christmas list in August? yessiree, never too soon..). I love your new RAK theme and the Friday round-up; I hadn’t come across Karen yet (how could this be??) but loved it instantly and have signed up; thank you :-). My only small plea? Could you consider doing your awesome round-up on a Monday which is unarguably the most depressing and work-enslaving day of the week so we get some happies when we need them the most? x

That wagon was one of the best Kijiji finds ever (not sure if they have Kijiji over yonder but it’s like Craigslist). And it took them awhile to really like it but now they can’t stop playing with it.

Karen is awesome! She is the first blog I ever followed b/c I read like 3 entries and I was in tears laughing. I love how raw she is and how she’s got the talent to back up all her projects. But her writing is amazing!

HAHA! Ok if I start messing up Fridays I’ll totally move it to Mondays!

Curb side items are a win-win for everyone involved! Donating whether it be Goodwill or leaving it on the curb makes me happy and I do it as often as I can.

Love that Huset dollhouse furniture. If you can build a kick-ass tree house you can definitely build a doll house for your new furniture. You know… in all your spare time!

Little “C” in that wagon is adorable. Man I miss being a kid, sometimes. I would love to curl up in a wagon and have someone pull me around. WHOO HOO! (not push me around… pull… pull) HA HA! Have a good weekend, Alex!

That dollhouse furniture totally caught my eye in the catalog and I thought of you. So happy that you got it and that it may even inspire another DIY post. If you all build a dollhouse, it’s sure to be cool!

    PS. Lovin’ these Friday notes!

Driving home from the beach… (don’t worry, Paul is actually steering.) And the post about taking time off REALLY resonated with me. I imagine you too.

Catching up on my blog roll this afternoon and I just spied your/my lovely mention! Thanks for the shout-out, twinster <3

I'm SO jealous you're attending Blog Podium. I've been trying to justify flying over for it. I haven't been back to Canada in 6 years … Oh god. Just looked up flights. I seriously have to get off the internet now.

And for the record, I think I'm going to have to produce children just so I can buy the tiny IKEA doll house accessories. I mean c'mon. It has my rug.

    xx A
