northstory notes – Sept 20, 2013

Hey now! I got the year right in this week’s post. It’s not 3103. I mean how the hell did that happen last week?

Oh right. Wine.

In honour of attending my first blogging conference ever on Saturday, in this week’s post I’d like to say Thanks to all the amazing, talented blogging friends I have met this past year. If you had told me that I would have actually gotten to know people via my blog and consider them confidants and friends, I would have laughed at you. I was like who does that? Who actually talks to strangers on the internet and thinks you’ll actually become friends with them down the line? Trust me, if my jaded self can get past this anyone can.

These bloggers are talented, funny, smart, creative and most of all what you see is what you get. They write posts from the heart. They will email you at midnight when you’re crying that the Plug-In you just installed scrambled your CSS and help you fix it. They will carry you off the “I am so going to delete my blog tonight!” ledge when you’re having a bad blogging day because certain a craft featuring site turn down your awesome Evil Queen costume that you poured your soul into making for your daughter. They will make you laugh at their mishaps and share their DIY tips to help make sure you don’t mess up your next project. You will get to revel in the success of their blog going viral thinking how awesome it is to see their talents finally being shared with more people. They will help promote your posts and Tweet every single blog entry you make and click that Facebook Like button even when no one else has just to say hey, I’m still here, I got your back.

They’re the good apples.

If there is one piece of blogging advice I could ever give any blogger, that would be to reach out to bloggers who you enjoy reading and actually get to know them off of the pages of their blog. I think I’ve said this before but having friends that blog that you can talk to about all the behind the scenes blogging antics to help you go through growing yours, is quite possibly the most powerful tool you can have in succeeding at having a blog.

Blogging is a community effort. Don’t even let anyone tell you otherwise. And if they don’t give you the time of day, they are not worth yours. Because I don’t know any blogger who wouldn’t be flattered at someone saying Hey, I really enjoy your site.

I want to link up to each and everyone of these awesome bloggers, but I know that the moment I hit Publish I will forget a name and then I will feel just all kinds of awful. So you know who you are. And I thank you. And I look forward to meeting and seeing some of you again later today at the Tea with Sarah Richardson and tomorrow at BlogPodium. And for those across the miles, maybe we can get working on getting me a Sponsor to get to me to Haven or ALT next year so I can Instagram that hell out of that with you next year?

In this week’s northstory notes:

I need to go shopping here with Funky Junk Interiors.

This is a kite? Awesome!

Proof that you don’t always need paint to make something look stunning again.

And because apparently this is the month for commercials that make me cry, here’s another one featuring an ultimate act of kindness.

If you follow my blog you know I have a lifetime supply of Perler (a.k.a. Hanna a.k.a. PYSSLA) beads leftover from my daughter’s Rainbow themed Birthday Party, so why not make some cool earrings out of them like Lauren did.

Think you can write for 31 Days straight? If so go check out The Nester and her project.

This is becoming one of my favourite Halloween DIY’s so far this year – go see what Lolly Jane made.

Speaking of wreaths

And on a final note, I think I need this t-shirt.

Happy Weekend!

I’ll be back next week with what is sure to wind up a two part series on what went down at BlogPodium.

No problem! I really love the marquee letters and especially the use of a word other than Boo! 🙂

I was nominated for an award? Wow! I did not know this. Who nominated me? This is the first I’m hearing of it. That’s really cool!
