I am the Mother that cannot spend money on herself. My kids have better clothing than I do.
Every time there is a special occasion to attend, I wind up panicking because I never have the right dress or shoes and inevitably wind up wearing a black sheath dress and pumps because I just can’t bring myself to buy myself anything that I’ve been coveting. And it’s not just with clothing, housewares and furniture come to mind. There are items that I have wanted for years that even when I have money saved up, instead I go “Oh that’s nice but the kids will totally not outgrow those Hunter Rain Boots after one season.” and spend my money on that instead.
Well this Mother’s Day, I am making a list. A list of shameless wants. The list that if money were no object, I would buy all of these tomorrow. For myself. Because why not? It’s the shoe theory. As in, life is too short, buy the damn shoes.
1) The KARLSSON Big Flip Wall Clock
I blame Alex from The Interior DIYer for my obsession with this one. This clock needs to be in our kitchen. I also blame LOST (the TV show) and Dharma corporation. Right now it’s hard to come by in the US (though there are lots in the UK) so there are several replica’s in different sizes you can get on Amazon while we wait for an order of the original. See the 12.5″ x 12.5″ or the 17″ x 17″.
2) Hunter Black Rain Boots
Yes yes, I have a pair of Kamik Red Rain Boots that I love and my write about them is one of my most read posts. They need a pair of friends from across the pond and black goes with everything. I am only putting these in here because my husband told me not to buy the navy ones I came across at Marshall’s one day and I am still regretting it. Or I can take another pair of Red in Hunter. *cough* Size 9.
3) Lululemon Skinny Groove Pants
The heavens parted and rainbows and unicorns came out of the sky when I discovered these existed. I was so tired of wearing the classic Lululemon Groove pants because they had this flared leg that felt really dated (I live in skinny jeans) and when I saw these it was like welcome to the next generation. Technically I own a pair (two) but I live in these pants and wash them quite often so the more the merrier. Tall Girl Alert – I am 5’11” with a 36″ inseam and you do not need a tall or special length for these. They will go all the way to your feet.
4) Hay Tray Table
Yeah. Pretty doesn’t cover it. My Pinterest Home Decor board has this table pinned in countless pics. It’s the Hay Tray table and it needs to replace our wooden coffee table bench that’s currently in our living room.
5) Frye Veronica Short Boots
These have been on my To Buy list for about 3 years now. I own a pair of similar boots from Aldo which once they wear down, I’ll bite the bullet and get a pair of these Frye Veronica Short boots. I was originally going for the Frye Veronica Slouch because I like boots that go to your knee, but I want my boots to stay up and put. And well, hence the name slouch. They’re eventually going to soften up and slouch on your legs. With the short version they’re going to stay put. I hope.
6) HBC Multi Stripe Point Blanket
What makes this want a dark comedy is that I can’t stand wool next to my skin. Again, who said anything about practical? It’s a want list not a logical purchase list. This is a Canadian classic and something I should have put on my wedding registry (had I had a wedding registry). When in doubt, they make a cotton version and several different throw pillows, also in cotton or wool. I’ll take any of the HBC items for Home Decor.
7) Kubus Candle Holder
It comes in black. It comes in white. It comes in copper. It makes me want to reenact The Police’s Wrapped Around Your Finger music video. This candle holder is one of those “when the kids get older” purchases and it would look really nice next to this candle holder of ours.
