Who doesn’t love a new notebook?

I am an old school memo and list maker. I have never gotten to a point where I prefer typing notes in my iPhone and even when I had the ease of the keyboard on my now defunct Blackberry. All my to do lists, groceries and notes are all written on paper. I find it easier and I love the texture of a good cardstock (which is probably why I enjoy making cards).

In which case, I’d like to give a very overdue Thank You to Sandy from urban rustic. Her blog is a wonderful gem of a vintage finds, collections and crafts. We both worked in television and both have way too much retro and second hand finds hanging around our homes. I was recently the lucky recipient of a giveaway she did of this gorgeous journal with a quote on the cover by Henry David Thoreau.

This is why I love the blogging community. You get a chance to virtually meet people that you never would have crossed paths with in real life, if only for geography or otherwise (she’s in Down Under while I am over in the Great White North). Sandy asked her readers to give up their “favourite not-so-Hallmark words of wisdom” and I won her over with one of my favourites by Edgar Allan Poe -“I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity”. I actually have that on a key chain I wore for years after my old boss brought it back from Baltimore, Maryland after doing a story on him.

But my favourite thing about the package was this simple note she wrote on her card. Totally made me smile.

It just goes to show you, that while we all live in different parts of the world, some things speak a universal language. Like crafting, card making and the never ending euphoria of thrift store shopping.

So Thank You again Sandy! My daughter already tried to confiscate it and I said nope. This one is staying with me.

If you’d like to see more of the amazing items she has, go visit her blog – urban rustic and her Etsy store of modern vintage collections for sale.

Utterly charming. And a fantastic quote! I still have my “favorite” notebook someone gave me when I was a kid… I never used it “because I liked it too much.” I have no idea at what point I will dare use it.

I have to tell you that I too HATED typing on a phone. And that I too am a list-lover. And I thought I would NEVER ever ever ever make a switch to digital… but the voice-recognition on the iPhone 4s changed my life. That sounds like hyperbole, but I really mean it. Opening the note app and hitting the microphone for a random thought… or setting up a reminder… or NEVER FORGETTING my grocery list ever again… never mind not having to actually text? Greatest thing ever.

I am definitely a hand write note taker too! I have a million slivers of paper in my purse. I should probably clean them out soon because I’m sure my New Years Resolution from the beginning of the year is still in there… somewhere. =] I will admit that I put notes in my phone sometimes, but not as often.

wow! lovely quote and I love notebooks too! I prefer them to iPhones and computers too! 🙂 I still have a beautiful pink leather journal my hubby gave me during our 1st month together (over 9 years ago), it’s untouched because it’s so beautiful and love the way it smells 🙂 BTW, I nominated you again for the sweet blogging award! 🙂 you deserve it! 🙂

You’re so lovely! This is a drive by post as I am in the middle of chaos this month. One day when the storm calms down I will promise to write up some fun award stuff!

🙂 don’t hurry up! 🙂 I’m sure you are super busy, here too 🙂 thinking of writing a post this evening but can’t get started, my little one has been sick for the last 3 days with fever, so it might have to wait until he goes to bed (past midnight because he’s not feeling well) 🙂 hope you are good 🙂

so cute! I also love notebooks, I even have on specifically for grocery shopping lists, it seems so silly to write something so trivial in something so nice, but I just can’t help myself…ps thanks for stopping by my blog 🙂

No it’s smart to do lists in them and carry it around. That way you’re not hunting down scraps of paper in your bag!

      🙂
